And Now a HAPPY ENDING!!!

After spending time suffering about where the Pasadena Man painting got to, this is what happened. I had the wrong address on the box (s) to Lauren. One mis-addressed box was sent back to Midge who repacked and sent it on to Lauren. I was getting ready to make a claim for the lost package, when Lauren got her box and the three paintings were all in the same large shipping box and no one knew it until Lauren opened her box. Here's what she said:

Hi Beady darling! Just checking in to let you know that we have not
received the paintings yet (my parents DID get theirs, though).
Anyway, if you want to give me a tracking number, I can take care of
the rest.

Bea - great news!! The box arrived today. I got home only in time to
cook dinner, and haven't opened it yet - but it's a big 'mo-fo' box!

shouldn't be anymore boxes. Then again, I may have lost my mind.

Just a few more pictures to finish up the party and to get on with life. May is almost over and the party ended on April 28th! The party is really over and I am sad. I sent 22 packages out of paintings to get back to their owners. One, Pasadena Man owned by Lauren and Ken Hunt is lost. I am still hoping it will turn up. The show lasted just three weeks and all in all it was wonderful but not long enough. I know it can not happen again in the same way and I have to be happy with what did happen and not be concerned for what didn't happen. It was terrific and I want to thank everyone who lent me their paintings and who were so gracious throughout. We sold quite a lot of work, 2 paintings and several woodcuts. I hope you all enjoy them and come back for more! I have four commisions requested. One, I have started on and I'll let you know when the others come about. I'll post them for you to see.

The food was so good and we worked it so that people did not have to line up to fill plates. Lot's of passed food - Crab Cakes, Chicken Sate, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Mini Steak Sandwitches, a chinese take out container with Chinese Chicken Salad, Leek Tarts and Ravioli stuffes with wild mushrooms.

The party went on for a while and there were people there from my community, my family and my old time nursery school friends. Many of the guests were in the paintings and I had a game to guess how many were there. Somehow the game was not much distributed or people chose not to play. I counted that there were 36 live people at the party. Lot's more were deceased but there in spirit. The total guesed were 51. The winner was Diana Deutsch with runner ups of April Stevens and Naomi Adelson. They will each receive a framed woodcut for their effort.

The party, on April 14th was a great success. It was at the j Ferrari Gallery, the weather was perfect, cool but comfortable with the heaters that we rented on. People wandered between the gallery indoors where the paintings were and the outdoors where most of the people were. Jeremy Rothe-Kushel played DJ and the music was fine. The food was prepared and served by our terrific caterers owners of the future Reservoir ( past Nina's). Jeremy's friend Gabe Eng took photos of the party which I will share

The Party is Over! The Retrospective Print and Paint Show is over! My birthday month is over. It is really over!
Yesterday, April 28th was the Ending Party of the Retrospective Show and people came by to enjoy the last time they would see these works together and to pick up their paintings. Today was packing and labeling boxes to be returned to the owners. My paintings are back in my house and going up on the walls. Tomorrow will be mailing.

It is over too soon! The jFerrari Gallery is a wonderful place to hold an exhibit, although I think more space would have been better for seeing individual paintings because there were so many. We didn't get that art critic I was hoping for. Susan Metzger, Kate Amend Assistant came and video taped my talking about the paintings and Kate said she'd edit it as a birthday gift for me. If she does she'll give it her magic touch and maybe we'll win an Oscar for a mini documentary! Bob Hertzberg also videotaped the show the day before and we may have a virtual tour from his taping. I can't wait to see and share the products. Mike Locke took photos of the paintings, the Opening and the City Hall morning and Jeremy Roth-Kachell's friend took photos at the party. I haven't seen them yet.

I am sure this show will never be mounted again and am sad to see it end. Everything, however, worked out very well. The April 7th Opening was a charm and the April 14th party was wonderful. I will add more to this Blog as soon as I get more photos. Thanks for following the story.

My Grandson Jesse made it to join us and we all got to go to the top of the beautiful City Hall. The views are wonderful and you can be proud to live in this city.

The City Hall event had a movement that was energetic and went from transporting us to City Hall and to the City Council Chambers to watch the Council at work. We saw Jackie Robinson's wife honored and saw the respect paid to that extraordinary man, ball player, who changed our society. It was very heartwarming. We saw a plea from the Animal Service to adopt animals and a puppy there to tug our hearts. Then it was my turn and Councilman LaBonge and Council Presiden Garcitti cam to the Podium and I was brought up. Council President Garcetti read a history of me that was very impressive (I'd like to get it to use as my vitae if I ever need it) then he presented me with a large bouquet of Silver Lake flowers. Councilman LaBounge gave me a large Pumpkin Bread made by an order of nuns. He assured me he was not trying to convert me. I got to make a little speech. I'm not sure of what I said except that I loved Los Angeles.

April 13th, the day before my Birthday Party, at the gallery, was the trip to City Hall to have the the City Council and audience sing Happy Birthday. Really! The dynamic Patty Malone, Tom Labonge's Deputy, developed a plan to celebrate my birthday by bringing my guests and family to the Los Angeles, City Hall, Council offices. She sent a beautiful bus to come to the Silver Lake Recreation Center and pick us up! Incredible! All my kids and and my girl grandkids were there. Jesse and Norman's family were in the air on the way from Washington D.C. Some of my favorite Seniors came to celebrate with me. It was fantastic. Michael Locke took photos and documented the event and Glen Dake pretended to be a senior.

The last time I wrote was on April 12th just before I picked my Cousin Barbara up at the Hollywood/Burbank airport. Of course the plane was late so I sat around for about an hour waiting for Barbara. Maybe that was a good thing because I think it was the last time I sat for about a week! It was great seeing Barbara and I immediately took her on a whirlwind program. First to IKEA to buy tiny cups for Creme Brulee for the party. It was a luxury I really wanted and Gloria and Elizabeth said they'd make it but couldn't find the cups. 200 cups purchased and then on to Smart and Final for Chinese take out boxes and chop sticks for Chinese Chicken Salad for the party. We didn't want people to have to line up to fill plates. Then to the gallery to meet with Jazmin and Midge and her friend, Carolyn to see the show.. Then I left Barbara at the gallery and ran to Staples for party game supplies. Perfect purchase! Small, easy writing pens for $2.50 for 12! And they had beautiful Card weight bright colored paper for the game. I could just picture people walking around each with a different colored card looking at the paintings to answer the questions on the game. What a great sight.

I went back to the gallery and we all went to see Jazmin, gallery owner and Rosemary Lowe, realastate agent cooked up using my and Dan Wooster's paintings for sale and display. We got there just before dark and all the lights in the neighborhood were out because of the ferousious winds that had come up. It was avery pleasant event and we all visited with people at the open house. From there we went to a restaurant I had never been to before called Spain. Nice real Spanish food. I'd go there again. It's on Glendale Blvd in Echo Park and has been there for may years. Home at last! Midge stayed over to help the next day and to go to City Hall. Midge's friend went back to Laguna Niguel and Barbara fell asleep very fast. I can't remember if Zavi joined us or not. Brain just too full! Next Installment will be the City Hall trip. What a trip!

The weekend is coming! I pick my cousin Barbara Macy up at 1:00pm at the Burbank Airport, Midge comes up with a friend to see the exhibit and Midge stays over. Scott, Wendy, Leila and Wendy's mother Irene come up today. Tomorrow, is the day the Los Angeles City Council sings Happy Birthday to this Octegenarian. Really? I will report tomorrow! Anyway, things are moving along and the party is coming together, the dinner at Regent China Inn will be fun. I ordered the dinner menu and we should have about 3 tables tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Today, Jazmin is taking part in a Rosemary Low, house sale, Open House and Art Show, from 5:30 to 8:30pm, at 2362 Peru St. Elysian Hights in Silver Lake where some of my and Dan Wooster's work will be displayed. Come if you can, I'll be there.

I realized when I sent out the last posting to my blog that I thought I had mentioned a couple of other out-of-towners who came to the show but in fact I had taked about them in my lost story. First, the Friedman Clan came, Susan and Alanah from San Jose and Peter and the boys from Seattle. It was such a pleasure seeing them together and seeing them enjoying their paintings and being able to visit with them, even if only for a bit. Howard, Dora and Evelyn and Elliott came to complete the family scene. I love that group!
Then Stephanie Baker came from Santa Barbara and brought her mother. They got a bit lost coming but made it. What a treat! I wonder if they had a good dinner on the way back.

I fell asleep last night on the computer after I had written a whole story about the opening but when I woke up my story was gone! Let me see if I can remember what I wrote - There were many people who came to the Opening - It was very heartening for me because people were very complimentary. Mostly people talked about my being very prolific and that there was a happy feeling in the work and that I was a good artist. Zahava prepared a lovely array of snacks that were set out in the patio and everyone seemed relaxed and at ease. Cory, Drew, Brad and Anna and Jesse and Midge, Randy and Mason were there and visited with people . They were all terrific family representatives. Our good friends the Deutsch/Wittenberg Clan came very early and it was a pleasure listening to them as they looked through the paintings to find the ones that belonged to them. Our Senior Club members also came in the early hours because the start was set for 5:00pm to give them time to drive while it was still daylight. It was so good to see so many there and they really enjoyed the exhibit. A little later friends and relatives and people I didn't know who read about the Art Opening in the Los Feliz Ledger or one of the internet information guides came. It was very crowded at one point and really fun. Ron Lissak and his family came in from San Francisco to my surprise and as usual it was a delight to get to visit with that family. Those three kids are really something wonderful! Heath Liner and Katherine and the twins came and they set off to find their painting. Lots of nice comments and lots of questions. The woodcut room was a great draw and there were several sold. Michael Lock and Donna came and Michael took some photos of guests. Friends from my woodcut group, the Baren Forum, came but were not there at the same time so I had woodcut friends there all night! Carol Lyon was here from New York visiting her daughter for Pasover, georgia garside came from West Covina and Ellen Shipley came from out Valencia way. It was great having Baren friends whose work I know and own with me on this day. Hali Eliza, my darling actor friend, came with two of her friends and said my work needed to be in a museum. I thanked her and I told everyone who said something so complimentary that they needed to contact the LA Times, Art Critic to tell him he should come see the exhibit.

The evening wore on and it continued to be exciting until about 10:00pm when I realized I had been on my feet since about 4:30pm. I had to sit!

I want to thank everyone who came to the Opening for making it worth my spending all that time and enery to get the paintings together and finding a wonderful gallery to show them in. I was right to have this Retrospective Print and Paint Show and I just wish Jack had lived long enough to join me. He loved my paintings and was a great support all our lives together.

IT HAPPENED!

Yesterday was the Opening of the Retrospective Print and Paint Show at the jFERRARI Gallery at The Complex, 3015 Glendale Blvd, Atwater Village, CA 90039, http://www.jferrarigallery.com 323-877-5542
and it was wonderful. Jazmin, the gallery owner did a great job getting everything hung. I know she had a lot of help but her hand and mind was in it from the beginning. It was very impressive. I had 117 paintings on display and everything looked spaced and comfortable.

I kept feeling like I was missing a painting and today Zavi and I found it. It was the one called Crawling Baby but then we found several more. Some are very old and some not so old. Most should be framed so I don't know if I'll try to get them into the show. Nothing like too much. I was worried the whole time paintings were coming in that there wouldn't be room for them but the genious of the gallery owner put my mind at ease. Should I give her abother challenge and add some more? I only know of one that didn't get here. Michael Locke, took photos of almost all the paintings. Some you haven't seen yet are above.

An update on the Retrospective Print and Paint Show is long over due. It is amazing that almost a month has gone by since my last posting. I have never been so busy in my life! Almost all the paintings are here and making their way to the gallery. This morning I was still missing four paintings but just learned that the Vancouver Girls was found! Now I think it may be only Peter's paintings and one from Lauren's parents. I hope they make it because they are some of my favorites. I'll post them if I can find the photos for you to see. The most miraculous is that I got Rhea Perlman's painting here. I wasn't sure it would be available but here it is:

It looks like more people want to stay over than I thought! I added 6 more rooms but these have only one bed so people will be able to choose. We now have twelve rooms for partying. Please let me know if you are intending to stay at the Travel Lodge. I would like to get a count and send you a map.

I DID IT!

I just reserved 6 non smoking rooms at the Travel Lodge, 1.6 miles from my house for April 13th and 14th. It is a very standard motel. Inexpensive, clean, breakfast included, good stuff in the room (frig, hair dryer, etc), 2 beds if wanted, walking distance to restaurants, Kaiser, Children’s Hospital and favorite Mid East market. I thought better than fancier place, far away. This area is hopping at that time, must be a conference or something. Moving Forward?

I'm putting my invitation card up again to remember why I'm doing this Blog. This is the place to keep up with the Retrospective planning. The invitation cards were ordered and will go out next week. IT IS GETTING CLOSE! The framing is going on, paintings are coming in, I'm meeting with the caterer on Monday to finalize the food, I got a call from Allison Cohen, Las Feliz Ledger to set an appointment with the writer for a story about me and the show. It will be the lead story in the Ledger for April. Everything seemed to be falling into place until I called to make a reservation for 5 rooms, at the hotel that I had looked at and that had rooms available for April 13th and 14th. I learned they sold out while we were on the Road Trip. Although it wasn't a terrific hotel it was close and people could come and go easily from my house during the time they are here. I'll let you know what I come up with as soon as I get something together. I am not calm, cool or collected.

HOME AGAIN

What a wonderful trip. All the paintings were gathered. Everyone had something special to wrap their paintings in to protect them and they all traveled safely. All the people were welcoming and gracious. Thank you everyone. I'll see you in April!!!

LAST STOP - SANTA BARBARA

We made it to the Baker's house before 5:30pm. It was still light and we could see their beautiful back yard. Dennis was there and showed us the work that they had done on the house since I was there last. Cory got her realtor tour and then Stephanie got home and the girls came in. They are charming young ladies and still look as pretty as they did when I painted them. The painting was comissioned and I was asked to do the painting because they liked the one I did for Nan and Curt who were close college friends. It was a lovely visit and we left with another painting and headed for home.

Car Trouble

That night we got as far as Los Gatos and crashed in a motel that our GPS informed us about. It was a plain Jane but clean and had sheets on the bed. All the way from San Francisco Cory complained about hearing a noise at the front wheel on my side. I didn't hear it. Deaf! The next morning Cory called Budget and they said for us to come to the San Jose Airport and exchange cars. We did and got a nicer car to drive. It was much quieter than the one we had before and the flat space for paintings was a little larger. Cory had been calling several times a day to see if there was an opening at Asilomar. On Thursday there finaly was an opening and we headed for Pacific Grove, Monterey and Carmel. Cory felt she could spend another day on the trip so going to the Monterey Peninsular was no problem. On the way we came to a Factory Shop Mall and found a Chico's and Cold Water Creek and bought some wonderful clothes. I got my party outfit. Actually I bought three dis=fferent things but don't know yet which I'll wear. What a treat. We had a delicious time. Wonderful sights, tastes, smells and a comfortable place to rest. We took our time leaving the next day and spent time in Carmel going to the shops. I found a beautiful pair of shoes which I didn't buy because they were $225. Cory urged me to buy them but I just couldn't. I found them on line when I got home but they were only $15 less. Should I get them?

More SanFrancisco

We spent the day driving around - we went past our next stop to see where it was. It was in a beautiful neighborhood not far from Brynas's but over near the Presidio. We used our GPS to hunt for clothing stores and she led us to some wonderful shops. The first one we went into happened to be next to where we parked. It was a designer shop and the first garment I looked at was $3000. A little steep even for an outfit for my party. The young woman was wearing a jacket that was $1500. Cory asked if she could afford such an expensive garment and she asnswered, "I'm lucky, I own the shop". Oh well. We had a very nice time and then headed for the Lissak home, a little early. We needed to get out of the car and settle down. We called and got someone who said they we ready for us. That was the housekeeper who was preparing vegetables for a dinner dish. The parents and children were not home yet. Pretty soom there was a burst of energy and Susanne Lissak and the three children came into the house. Susanne made a bee line for the food preparation and the kids took us on a tour of the house. It is a huge four story and beautiful old house in a very lovely part of San Francisco. The children were adorable, full of energy, talkative, willing to share and interactive with each other. They were a real treat to be with. Ron, Jack's second cousin, came home, the housekeeper left and we settled down to a delicious dinner. We were invited to stay over but were hoping to get part way to Asilomar. It was our plan to spend a night there but it didn't look too likely if we had to be home on Thursday. The painting we picked up was a commision purchased by Ron and Susanne. It is of the parents and their first born child. They are talking about another painting with al three children in it. It would be fun to do. I love those kids.

ON TO SAN FRANCISCO
We met up with Bryna before lunch and went to her house to pick up the paintings. Bryna and I have known each other since 1963 when we team taught at Lokrantz in the San Fernando Valley. The school was for physically handicapped chhildren and our classes were for preschool and kindergarten children. We have been friends ever since. One of the paintings are of Bryna and the girls and the other is of Bryna at school, at the table with the children playing with play dough. I still can name the children in the painting. I wonder if Bryna can. I bet she can. Bryna lives near Golden Gate Park and she and her co-ownwner are also business partners. Gwen is an Ocupational Therapist and Bryna is an Educational Therapist. They sometimes share patients but always share space. It is a terrific arrangement for both of them. At lunch time Bryna drove us to a Russian restaurant in her neighborhood. I had Pilemini and Cory had Borscht and we all shared an asortment of Piroshki. Very good food and we haven't had Russion food since Moscva Cliff went out of business - many years ago. It was a little too short a visit with Bryna because she had to get back to work but the time we had was very enjoyable.

CONCORD Next

We were just too tired to go on to San Francisco that night after the difficulty driving in the rain and long day of visiting. We stayed in Walnut Creek. How lucky we were. We were able to reach Rhonda Garcia the next morning and drove to her work in Concord. What a treat! Rhonda is working for children's services in Concord and has a Resource and Referral program and a progrsm for inclusion of children with disabilities. She took me on a tour of their new facility and it was like old times. We also met Magda Gerber's son! Erica and Daisy's brother. Such a great visit that was! The painting we picked up was a commision Rhonda won in a fund raiser for an Early Childhood Organization. I had contributed the work to be used as a donation to the silent auction. The painting was of Rhonda and her two teen age children. That was ten years ago so her kids are now well in their twenties and thirties.

When we left Shirley we went on to Sheryl's house using our darling little GPS. Our Navagator was a young woman who had good diction and a sense of humor. Her voice when she had to recalculate, because we changed something, was annoyed and reprimanding. She was perfect. The Weiss house is a gem. Sheryl and Melanie were there and Sheryl had let me know she was just finishing remodeling the family house and that my paintings had some influence on decisions. We were taken on a tour and found all the new developments wonderful. Paul and Sheryl's bedroom was a treat, including the story about moving the bed to the alcove because Sherly woke up in the middle of the night realizing that's where the bed belonged. It does belong there. Downstairs again we saw the paintings of the goat and Sheryl painting. The room is designed to settle aroung those paintings. Thank you Sheryl. It made me feel terrific. These two paintings were bartered for engineering work by Elliott Moscovitz when we built our Bianca house. Sheryl and Paul had two more paintings for us. One was a batik that Paul had gotten from Jack and Millie Hirsch and one was a painting I did of Shirley Moscovitz for the girls to use for thier mother's memorial services held in our house. They were added to the load. We spent a long time there, enjoying the stories that we shared about the families and visiting with Melanie, Sheryl and Paul.

Next, we went on to Walnut Creek and visited with Shirley Berman. What a fun visit. I discovered that Shirley is one month younger than I am and is living in an apartment complex in a new area of Walnut Creek. Shirley shared her collection of antique brass items and the doll house that Shirley built. The painting we picked up was a Pipe Player that I had bartered for a sound system for the Bianca, Northridge house, that Jack Berman did for us.

After Sacramento we went on to Alamo and visited with Janet Terada and the Terada children. Big rains and sleet coming down. Huge ice pellets and sheets of driving rain so visiting in the warm fireplace heated home was great. We picked up a painting I had done as a gift for Shirley Moscovitz when she was ill, Janet and Sheryl's mother who died several years ago. The house is very lovely and in a treesy friendly neighborhood. The ceiling in Kailin's room was covered with medals hanging down on ribbons and was spectacular. She won them for Gymnastics. How does such a young kid win so many medals? One good thing is if an earthquake ever hit that room those medals would make beautiful music.

Picking up paintings

Before our Road trip was to start we received two paintingas from Susan Fink. One is of Susan, Alanah and Roper and the other is of Loren, the dad, baking bread. Such a great family.

THE FIRST DAY OF THE TRIP - SACRAMENTO TO FOLSOM

We tried to meet up with Sheila Wolfe in Sacramento after we got our SUV and GPS, but somehow kept missing her. We went to Folsom instead, where we were going to meet Giovanna Stark and pick up the painting that was commisioned fifteen years ago. I haven't seen Giovanna for probably ten years and was looking forward to it. The gallery was amazing! Huge space and filled with all kinds of interesting and beautiful art. Giovanna was her usual charming self and we just spent the afternoon visiting and enjoying the gallery and the coffee shop (part of the gallery). Giovanna made a reservation for us at a Folsom Inn and invited us to dinner at a local restaurant. Jack Hailey walked into the gallery, he and Giovanna are living together now and Jack does some work for the Gallery as do Giovanna's children. Both he and Giovanna are still providing services for the Senate. Jack has a shock of bright white hair today but looks exactly as he did when I met him in 1972 when he had a shock of pitch black hair. I don't know how he accomplished that. We had a great dinner with them and Jack had to get going because he had a presentation thre next morning to a Senate Committee. He is definately still working.

The next day we went back to the gallery and picked up our the painting of three of the Stark children. I remember loving to paint that picture. Still one more to come from the family.

BACK TO SACRAMENTO

After Folsom we went back to Sacramento to visit with Sheila and once again Cory got the full Realtor house tour. They have such a great house and I could remember with pleasure camping in front of the house in our motor home. We loved that camp site! We picked up the painting of Chris and Sheila that I did when they lived in Silver Lake. That was a long time ago.

Our Second Day of Road Tripping

I am rewriting the story so that I can include the paintings we picked up on our Road Trip. On the second morning, after a very nice rest at a hotel in Folsom, on a lake, we went over to the Gallery where we picked up the painting of three of the Stark children. Cory and I went on to Walnut Creek staying over night at a Holiday Inn. We were too tired to go to San Francisco. We saw the Moscovitz girls, Sheryl and Janet, and Shirley Berman on our Road Trip. It has been fun and we picked up 7 paintings so far and have 5 more to go. People have been asking for more details about the show and party activities so the dates and party times are as follows:

On Saturday April 7th there will be a gallery opening show of my work from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. On Saturday, April 14th there will be a party starting at 7:00pm and lasting till it’s over. That will be by invitation since we can only have about 150 people. On Saturday, April 21st there is an Atwater Community Art Event and the j.Ferrari Gallery is taking part, so we will too. On Saturday, April 28th there will be a closing party when I hope people within driving distance will come and celebrate a great show and pick up their paintings, if they can.
The other two things happening are – on Friday April 13th there will be a dinner party at one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, Regents China Inn, in China Town at 7:00 pm for our out of town guests and other friends who’d like to join us. On Sunday, April 15th we will have an end of party brunch at my house at 11:30 am, for our out of town guests and other friends who’d like to join us. I hope to see you at one or more events. It looks like it will be a great time. In addition, if I get an unframed painting in March I think my good framer will frame it for me, so not to worry if you have a painting to frame.

Our Painting Pick up Road Show

I am leaving tomorrow to join with Cory, my daughter, for our Northern California Road Trip to pick up paintings for the show. Cory is coming up from San Diego and I'm flying out of Burbank. We meet in Sacramento and rent an mid size, SUV to carry the paintings. There should be about ten of them. We leave Sacramento and drive to Folsome where we will meet with Giovanna Stark at her American Visions Art Gallery, and pick up 2 paintings I did of her children, I think in 1997. They are grown up now. I am looking forward to visiting WITH Giovanna. We head back to Sacramento to visit with Sheila Wolfe and pick up Sheila and Chris Drouin's wedding picture. I did it a lot of years ago as a wedding gift. Our plans are to stay in Sacramento on Monday night and then head down to Walnut Creek, Concord,Alamo and Santa Rosa for paintings from Sheryl Weiss, Janet Terrada, Shirley Berman, Jack and Millie Hirsch and Rhonda Garcia on Tuesday. I am looking forward to visiting with good friends. Then we're off to San Francisco for 3 paintings from Bryna Adelson and Ron and Sussane Lissak. Cory and I are trying to get one night in at one of our favorite stops, Asilomar. So far no luck in getting a room for the 28th but we're going to go over to Pacific Grove and try anyway. Our last stop is in Santa Barbara where we get Stephanie and Dennis Baker's painting to bring down to Los Angeles for the show. Cory heads home on the train to be ready for work on Friday.

Hi all my Friends,

I’m writing to invite you to my Retrospective Print and Paint Show, Opening. It will take place on April 7, 2007 at the jFERRARI Gallery, at The Complex,

3015 Glendale Blvd, Atwater Village, CA 90039, 323-877-5542, www.jferrarigallery.com, from 5:00 to 11:00pm.

As you probably know, I am an artist who has painted and done woodcuts since I was a kid. My paintings are portraits of people and they are either commissioned, bartered for services or I painted them as gifts. My paintings are owned by people around the country and the paintings will be together in the same place for the first time. I have wanted a retrospective for years but it was always too hard to make it happen. This year I turn eighty and I figure it’s now or never so I took on the challenge to put it together.

What I really want is to have a wealthy, art collector or critic come into the gallery and fall in love with my work so the people who own my paintings can become rich when I die. It's a nice dream so I am trying to get the most publicity I can to make it happen. Take a look at the photo for the invitation. It took a lot of years to put it together. So put the date on your calendar. Come and celebrate with me if you can.

I will use this the Bea Gold Retrospective Blog to keep everyone up to date about the show and party. Both the show and party require a lot of planning and things are moving along. FOR THE SHOW: Paintings are beginning to come in. Two came from San Jose and one from Mississippi. There are several at my framer, Studio Framers. I just learned that Studio Framers is going out of business at the end of February. That means that the paintings needing frames have to be there there in February so things are being pushed along. Cory and I are going on a Road Trip to pick up paintings. We are flying to Sacramento and renting a mid-size SUV, which should be able to carry the ten or so paintings we will pick up. There are two houses in Sacramento, then one in Walnut Creek, one in Alamo, an office in Concord, two houses in San Francisco and one in Santa Barbara. I'm looking forward to the trip, visiting and getting to see where my paintings are hanging.
FOR THE PARTY: I have secured a caterer who comes with very high acclaim, Gloria and her partner Elizabeth who will be taking over Netty's a well loved Silver Lake restaurant. Michael Locke will be our photographer. He has been a strong presence in the Silver Lake community and his web site Silver Lake Community News is terrific. Jeremy Rothe-Kushel, I hope, will be our DJ for music for the evening. We need to keep the party invitees to about 150. I don't believe the jFerrari Gallery will hold more comfortably. The gallery curators will need to be creative in hanging the paintings - there will be a lot of paintings and the space is not large but very nice. I'll let you know what happens next.

Bea Gold - Retrospective Paint and Print Show

For a long time I have been talking about having a retrospective paint and print show and there always has been a reason for it not happening. It seems to be really complicated to pull together but this year I turn 80 and think it’s now or never. I found a gallery that I think is just right. There is also an Atwater Arts Fair on April 21st and my work and the Gallery will take part in it. The image at the top is the invitation I am sending for the Retrospective. It took many years to put this card of self portraits together!
